Web application development services for software people use every day

Boffin Coders is a web application development company that has built portals, dashboards and platforms for small businesses, agencies and founders since 2017. Our web application development services cover scope, design, build and launch, and the work after it, with one team. Each build is bespoke web development, written around the way your users work rather than a template with your logo on it. Scoped once and priced from the published floor, built in your repository and your accounts from the first commit, on Next.js and Node.js. If you already have an application that has outgrown itself, that is a rebuild, and it is the same team.

Projects from US$4,000 · US$18-38 an hour · a developer from US$3,000 a month
  • Your repository from the first commit
  • NDA before scoping
  • Published rates, nothing quoted outside them

Running a clinic, a trade or a shop and need a website that brings enquiries? That is our local business line.

Everything in your name, from the first commit

The repository, the staging site and every account sit with you while we build, so there is nothing to hand over at the end and nobody to ask for access.

The project we can show in full

A site we built, own, and can open up completely.

Timezones.in is our own: more than 10,000 server-rendered pages on a single droplet, rebuilt on Next.js 16 in a week. The write-up covers the URL deduplication, the framework migration that moved no URLs, and what broke.

What we build

Four kinds of web application we can show you

A web application development agency should be able to open up the thing it is selling. These are the four kinds of work we can point at, and each one says what is running with a client, what is ours, and how we approach the parts that sit under NDA.

Portals and dashboards

Logins for your customers, staff or students, each seeing their own records, and screens that show your team what is happening without a spreadsheet. Running with a client: IELTS Builder, where students sit timed mocks, Listening and Reading are marked on submission and a teacher approves every Writing and Speaking grade. It took 4,584 submissions in a thirty-day window. If your numbers already live in Microsoft tools, a Power BI dashboard may be a cheaper answer than a custom screen, and we will say so.

  • Customer and staff portals
  • Logins with roles
  • Admin screens your staff run
  • Reports and exports

Moving off an old system

An application that has outgrown itself, a plugin stack nobody dares update, or a framework that stopped getting releases. We read the code first and tell you whether it needs a fix or a rebuild, and a fix is often the right answer. Our published migration is a framework move: timezones.in, 10,723 pages rebuilt on Next.js without losing a URL. A PHP to Node.js rewrite follows the same method, one module at a time behind an API. The method, and what we check before and after, is on our legacy modernisation page. If it is a website rather than an application that has to move, to a new platform, host or domain, our site migration services map every URL before the switch.

  • Code read before any quote
  • Fix or rebuild, in writing
  • URL snapshot before and after
  • Data moved with a count

Payments and logins

The parts every application needs and nobody should invent: sign-in, password resets, roles, email, file uploads and payments. We use the framework's standard libraries and the payment provider's own hosted checkout, so card numbers never touch your server and the next developer recognises the pattern. Logins with roles are running with a client in IELTS Builder, where students and teachers each have their own login and an instructor opens an exam to a whole class with a code. The shops we have built take payments through Shopify. A custom checkout inside a web application uses the provider's hosted payment page or its embedded components, so card data stays with the provider.

  • Sign-in, roles and resets
  • Provider-hosted checkout
  • Email and notifications
  • Uploads and file storage

Search and content at scale

Thousands of pages generated from your data, each one fast, crawlable and answering a real query, plus the search that helps people find the right one. timezones.in is ours: more than 10,000 server-rendered pages from six templates, with a meeting planner, a free API and an embeddable clock, all on one server. Because there is no client to ask, we can publish every part of it, including what broke. It is the same work behind a directory, a catalogue or a knowledge base.

  • Pages generated from your data
  • Server-rendered for search
  • Site search and filters
  • Sitemaps that match reality

Larger and regulated platforms, such as trading systems, records systems and multi-tenant SaaS, start with a longer scoping phase and an architecture agreed in writing before any code is written. Much of our client work sits under NDA, so we walk you through the approach on a call. If your application needs a person on our side for months rather than a scoped project, a dedicated development team is the shape for that.

Industries

Sectors where we have built and can show it

The rules differ by sector more than the code does. These three have a page of their own and work behind them that you can open.

Education

IELTS Builder moved an institute's 200-plus paper mocks onto the computer-delivered format. Students sit timed tests, Listening and Reading are marked on submission, and a teacher approves every Writing and Speaking grade before a student sees it. It is running with the client.

What we built

  • Timed mock exams
  • Marking on submission
  • Teacher review of AI feedback
  • Mocks staff build themselves

Healthcare

Clinevo is a care-services web platform we built on Next.js and Node.js: service pages, accessible navigation and clear routes through the services for patients and families. Our work on it is the public website and its front end. For clinic software we build the controls and your compliance officer verifies them.

What we built

  • Next.js and Node.js
  • Accessible navigation
  • Service routes for families
  • Hosting in your accounts

E-commerce

Hooaah is a food store on React, Node.js and MongoDB, where our work was the shopping front end. For most shops a hosted platform is the better start, and we have built Shopify stores for Classy5, TITI Atelier and Office Furniture Scotland. A custom web application earns its cost when the store has logic a platform cannot hold.

What we built

  • React and Node.js storefront
  • Shopify builds
  • Platform choice by stage
  • Custom only where it pays

Estate agencies have a page of their own too. Our real estate software page covers agency websites with live listings from the CRM, area pages that rank and enquiries written back. Every other sector gets the same team and the same method, and where the work sits under NDA, we walk you through it on a call.

AI, where it earns its place

AI in your web application, where it earns its place

Retrieval over your own documents, classification, drafting with a person reviewing. Built on your infrastructure when the data is sensitive, and left out when it would not pay for itself.

Drafting, with a person sending

AI writes the first draft of a reply, a summary or a feedback note, and a person reads it before anything leaves. In IELTS Builder the teacher reads, corrects or overrides the AI feedback before a student sees it. Why the draft should never send itself.

Answers from your own documents

Retrieval over your policies, manuals or help pages, answering only from what is there. The chat assistant on this site works that way, from this site's own content. Why most RAG chatbots ignore their rules, and what we do instead.

Speech to text on your own server

Recordings transcribed on hardware you control, so the audio never goes to a third party. It is how IELTS Builder handles Speaking submissions. How self-hosted speech to text keeps the recording.

What we leave out

  • No AI where a rule or a search box does the job
  • Nothing irreversible without a person approving it
  • Sensitive data stays on the device or your server
  • No accuracy figure until it is measured on your own data

When the AI is the whole job rather than one feature of an application, start with AI automation, which sorts out which kind you need before anyone quotes.

How it works

How we build web applications

Four phases, each with something you can see. No demo environments on our side: the staging URL is in your accounts inside the first month.

Scope

Weeks 1-2

We read what exists, map the data and the people who use it, and write a scope with each line priced. The data model, the integrations and any migration are separate lines, so you can see what each one costs.

What you see

  • A written scope, line by line
  • The data model on one page
  • A fixed price for version one
  • What we would leave out

Design

Weeks 2-4

Screens for the tasks people actually do, clickable before any code is written. The person who designs them sits next to the developer who builds them, so nothing is lost in a handover.

What you see

  • A clickable prototype
  • The screens that matter first
  • Copy in your words
  • Accessibility checked

Build

Two-week cycles

Two-week cycles in your repository. Every pull request is reviewed by a second engineer. The first usable screen is on a staging URL in your accounts inside the first month.

What you see

  • A staging URL you can use
  • Reviewed pull requests
  • Tests where money or data moves
  • A demo every fortnight

Launch and after

Launch week

We launch from your accounts, check that every old URL still answers, and write down how to run it. An application usually keeps changing after launch, so the next step is often a developer by the month or a software development retainer rather than a second project.

What you see

  • A signed-off launch checklist
  • Old URLs checked
  • A README that runs in an hour
  • Nothing to hand over

Agencies can buy the same process as two-week sprints against a written scope, delivered under their own brand. The terms, including how we stay invisible to your client, are on our white label development page. Agencies reselling portals, dashboards or SaaS products to their own clients can see how our white-label web application development works.

How we actually build it

Your rebuild will drop URLs. Google will tell you in six weeks.

A framework migration changes how pages are made, and old addresses stop existing without anyone deciding they should. The two-snapshot check that proves nothing moved, from a 10,723-page site that went through it.

The stack

The stack we build web applications on

Boring on purpose. Chosen so any competent developer can take the application over from you later. This site runs on the same stack, with Payload CMS for the content. If you would rather staff it yourself, you can hire MERN stack developers in India or NestJS developers by the month.

FAQ

What to ask before you choose web application development services

The questions that come up on the first call, answered here so the call can be about your application.

For a named engineer who works overlap hours with your day, code in your repository from the first commit, and a company that has been shipping web applications since 2017. We are a web application development company in India, with our own team in Mohali, and we agree the overlap hours with you before the work starts. What you give up is the same room, and that is all. The rate comes last, not first: it is published on this page, US$18-38 an hour depending on seniority, and it does not change from one client to the next for the same Node.js and React work.

Tell us what the application has to do

Twenty minutes with the engineer who would own it. You leave with a scope, a number from the published rate, and who would be on it.
