Platform comparisons is a series of guides from the Boffin Coders developers who build on each platform. Each part sets the options side by side, Next.js and React or Shopify and WooCommerce for example, and says which one fits which kind of business, what it costs to run and what you can take with you if you leave.

Platform comparisons series: the eight match-ups, Next.js vs React, Flutter vs React Native, Webflow vs WordPress and more, from Boffin Coders.

The parts, in reading order

Choosing a platform decides what a site or app costs to build, what it costs to run, and who can change it later. Each part of this series compares two platforms from the side we build on: which one fits which kind of business, what each costs, where each one stops, and when it is worth moving. Every part is written by the developer who does that work.

  1. Two page sources side by side: Next.js with 2,300 words in its HTML before any JavaScript, and React on its own with an empty div and a script tag.

  2. Two phones side by side under the words Flutter paints it and React Native asks the phone, one screen painted pixel by pixel and the other using native iOS and Android controls.

The findings

What the series shows

Each finding comes from a check we ran ourselves, and the parts show how we ran it.

  • Next.js is React plus pages, routing and server rendering, and React's own documentation lists it first for a new app or website.
  • From October 2025 to October 2026, Flutter shipped four new stable versions and React Native six. React Native maintains only its latest three.
  • In the year to 21 October 2026, WordPress released three major versions and 14 updates on its newest line, before a single plugin update.
  • A Squarespace export is one WordPress .xml file. A second blog, store pages, drafts and custom CSS stay behind.
  • A Shopify product export is a CSV file without the images. WooCommerce images are already files in your own media library.
  • boffincoders.com runs on Payload 3 inside a Next.js 16 app on MongoDB, and four collections added in October needed no migration file.
